The nautical institute Caboto of Gaeta is the first school in which the new Horizon external vision generation software has been installed.
Horizon is now part of the Full Mission bridge and it is reproduced on large monitor to cover an horizontal field of about 240°.

The 5Ks Horizon real-time rendering system, based on a latest-generation graphics engine, is able to offer high realism of both the marine and port and coastal environments in all weather conditions and at any time of day. The range of visual conditions is programmable from day to dusk to night with smooth transitions from one to the other, including the variation from clear visibility to haze, fog, poor visibility to dense fog. Conditions of reduced visibility are simulated with a gradual transition between the different states in real time.

To provide depth perception signals, the intensity of the lights decreases as a function of their distance from the observer and are reproduced in variable sizes based on the distance in any circumstance. Similarly, the system generates the navigation lights of ships and other targets (the setting of the target lights is generally controlled by the instructor). The system generates bow and stern waves related to the target’s speed, as well as combustion fumes and other peculiar elements (e.g. radar antenna rotation animation).
